Benchmark indicators for the operational performance of golf courses in the Eastern European region

Data and analysis for our Eastern European regional report has been based on responses from more than 40 golf courses regarding their operating performance in 2006.

The Eastern European market has been constantly developing since the socialist era, when golf was a banned sport in most countries. However, the supply of golf courses is still very low both in absolute terms and in proportion to population, as well as regarding the geographic size of the region.

Despite a stable annual growth in the number of affiliated players, demand for golf in Eastern Europe remains relatively low in terms of membership and number of rounds played when compared to other regions. This can be explained, amongst other factors, by the relatively high price of golf in Eastern Europe, which is in line with courses in the Northern European region, despite consumers’ significantly weaker spending power.
